It’s 16 Bars my people, and
we’re getting tha werd out!
It’s CRISPY y’all.
N4U: Where did your name
come from? Crispy like the cracker?
CRISPY: No motherf***er, not
like the cracker. Haha. First name Chris. Last name starts with a P… It’s that
simple.
What’s your connection to
Evansville?
I’m originally from Richmond IN.
The RV capital of the
world?
Haha. Yes. Yes it is.
Anyway, I left there and traveled all over the country as a door to door
salesman. I traveled from Portland, Maine to Portland,
Oregon. I ended up here, and 8
years I’m still here.
How did you get started
as an MC?
I started as a battle cat –
Undefeated head to head in Evansville.
Check the resume. Also, I’ve been writing for ten years, and I’ve been rapping
for real since 2002.
Do you remember your
first song?
I recorded it at Big
Coola’s, and I was nervous as f*ck. 4 people in there watching me. It was
called "48 Bars With No Hook".
Would you bump it now?
I would listen to it. Quietly
with no one around… No. F*ck it. I would bang it! If I said it… I meant it!
How would you describe
your style?
(Rapping) Lyrical Beastmode/
Hip Hop from the East Coast/ mixed with that middle of da map street flow/ sprinkle
a dash of that weed smoke and that’s me… Ho.
Do you have a dream
collabo?
Yep. On one song your gonna
have me, Luda, Busta, Big L, Eminem, and JayZ, with The Roots band backing us,
and Nate Dogg and Akon on the hook… "Craig you ain’t got to lie"…
Haha.
Tell us about WERDAMOUF
RECORDS.
We started WERDAMOUF in
2007. We’ve got myself, Rone, and Lexx (in the stable) & Sammy Mo’ as
A&R. Wanna know more? We’re always looking for talent so get at me. (812) 774-7610.
Do you have any other
projects you’re working with right now?
Haha. Oh yeah. The New Administration album has just
come out. It dropped on Patriot’s day 9/11. 20 tracks, 15 artists. Hip Hop,
Reggae, R&B, Rock, & Acoustic. It’s gonna be the biggest compilation/
collabo in the area ever. The electricity can’t be matched. We even have a
major label artist on there. Young Twinn from Jive Records is doing a track
called "Boomerang Money" with local artist Illement. We’ve also got
Rone’s "Prince of the Streets vol.4" out now, and on Friday Nov. 13th,
my new album, The Genuine Article is
going to drop.
What do you wish you knew about the business now that
you didn’t know when you got started?
That there’s more snakes in
the grass than rabbits in the field. It takes had work, period. Recording a
couple of songs don’t mean you know how to rap even if your closest people tell
you you’re great. You need strangers to feel your sh*t. They are the ones who
are going to buy it.
10 things we don’t know
about CRISPY…
- Heineken fiend
- Traveled the country for 2 ½ years as a door to door
salesman
- Rage Against The Machine
is his all time favorite band
- Is a professional
"Assh*le"
- Battle MC that hasn’t been
beat by anyone in Evansville
in 6 years
- Is part Irish, German,
& Jamaican Albino
- Is working on a distribution
deal through Select-O-Hits for WERDAMOUF RECORDS
- He works harder than you
- Is a Sagittarius. Enough
said.
- Is clinically insane
Tip of the Month (From
CRISPY) – Be true to yourself. Talk
about what YOU’VE done. Be real with yourself. It has to come from the heart… I
always say that Tupac was the best rapper ever, not the best lyricist. But it’s
impossible not to feel what was coming from his mouth. Because he was speaking
from his heart.
He’s been a club DJ, a host, a live performer, an
executive producer, a promoter, and CEO of one of only 3 legit hip-hop labels
in the area, WERDAMOUF RECORDS. He’s got a reputation that precedes him: cocky,
loud, brash, funny, and undisputed battle rap champion.
