WE'VE GOT TROUBLE RIGHT HERE
IN RIVER CITY
Jonas Schmonas… look out
Disney tots, I've seen the future and it IS in Trouble. It is true; most rock
stars don't have a bedtime curfew or have to finish their homework before they
can practice with the band. However, you are about to meet four boys, ages 11,
13 and 14, who are totally focused on school, activities, but most of all music. And
they are going to show you why they are the most rockin' kids in the Midwest. Sometimes it's difficult to mask my enthusiasm
for events that are offered in Evansville,
because there is something for everyone if you just open your eyes.
On Saturday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. you can contribute
to the youth of Evansville
and get seriously rocked at a show that appeals to all ages. Evansville Youth
Hockey Association is proud to welcome Louisville's
hottest band, The Trouble With Boys, at Swonder Ice Arena for a melting rock
show in the Arena's parking lot. All proceeds from the paltry $8 ticket go
directly to Evansville Youth Hockey Association to offset the high cost of
allowing kids the opportunity to play one of the greatest sports ever. These
boys have been “schooled” in Louisville at Mom's
School of Rock and have put together a tight band
packed with attitude. Their personas make them the perfect poster children for
the game of hockey, therefore the appropriate entertainment for a weekend
hockey tournament at Swonder suitably named “Hocktoberfest.”
I had a chance to chat with the boys and found that they
have looked to bands such as Blink 182 and Foo Fighters to influence their
style. The boys released a CD entitled Japanese
Gameshow which is full of catchy tunes which my daughter insists are WAY
better than the Jonas Brothers. They've studied punk, metal and rock and have
turned all of these influences into their music. All the band's songs are
available online at www.thetroublewithboys.com or on iTunes or Rhapsody. You
will frequently hear their original songs at Swonder Ice Arena during public
skating sessions and hockey games. I can not begin to tell you how
seriously awesome this band is at cover songs of artists such as Foo Fighters,
Neil Young and The Beatles.

Let's Meet Trouble:
Matt - 11 years old – Bass
player, been playing for 5 years – finishes homework in the car during the one
hour trek to band practice. Also plays baseball.
Conner - 13 year old lead
vocalist who nails it on The Beatles' :Helter Skelter.” Been playing guitar
since he was 7. Totally dedicated to screaming rock and roll.
Ryan – 14 year old Drummer
who's been playing since 2nd grade on the drum kit Mom bought him.
Also plays soccer (when?)
Foster - 14 year old Lead
Guitarist. Been shredding it for a mere 4 years and also sings in the school
choir (awwwww).
The boys have various issues
with girls & girlfriends and I reminded them of the importance of
concentrating on rock & roll (oh yeah, school, too.) Hopefully the boys will
keep their day job, aka school, for about another 10 years. Right now they have
to get to bed by 9 on school nights and can squeak out a later hour on the
weekend. Foster requested that I not publish what time he shuts down on Friday
nights just in case his parents are reading and 11-year-old Matt so eloquently
provided “my bedtime is whenever I think that it needs to be.”
Tickets for this event are ONLY $8 and the show will go
on rain or shine. Tickets are limited, so get yours TODAY at Swonder Ice
Arena, Monday through Friday, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. You gotta
trust me on this one -- the adults will enjoy this show as much or MORE than
the youngsters, so don't delay getting your tickets.
When asked why people should come out and see the Boys,
Conner told me that “A lot of different people like a lot of different things
and music can be a good thing for everybody.” Drummer, Ryan, summed it up with
“You must come to the show because you will see 11, 13 & 14 year olds who
can play like adults and .... we LOVE a big crowd.”
The show is proudly sponsored by: Rudolph Town &
Country Machinery, Guitar Lab, H & H Music, Turoni's, Longhorn Steakhouse,
Big Chief Lifting, Dr. Brad Bath and News
4U.
