Angel Mounds State Historic Site 812-853-3956

Jul 1-2:Camp Mound Mayhem Summer Day Camp - Angel Mounds’ signature day camp is back! This summer classic focuses exclusively on the Native American culture that once thrived at Angel Mounds. Throughout the week, campers will participate in activities and games that teach them the basics of living off the land – how to identify native plants and their uses; how to make and use tools from basic natural resources; and, of course, how to train and hunt like a warrior. The camp concludes with a grand finale featuring a games tournament and Friday Feast.  Campers will dine on deer jerky, pecans, cattails and other Mississippian fare, including a turkey baked in an earth oven. Registration fee includes a free t-shirt, snacks, and lunch on Friday. Early drop-off and late pick-up options available. $95 per camper through May 28, for Friends of Angel Mounds members, Indiana State Museum members and multiple registrations; after May 28, $110 per camper. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Jul 23 through 25, 30 & 31:The Lady With All the Answers  - “Dear Ann Landers...” For decades this renowned advice columnist answered countless letters from love-lorn teens, confused couples and a multitude of others in various stages of personal crisis. No topic was off limits, including the proper way to hang toilet paper, sibling rivalries, religion, sex in a motorcycle helmet, and nude housekeeping. An ironic turn of events confronts our heroine with a looming deadline for a column dealing with a new kind of heartbreak: her own. As she shares her struggles with us, we learn as much about ourselves as we do about this wise, funny, no-nonsense American icon. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees are scheduled for 2 p.m.

Jul 22-25:The Wild Party - Manhattan decadence in the 1920's provides the backdrop for this tough musical fable. Queenie, a vaudeville chorine, hosts the blow-out of the title with her vicious lover, a black-face minstrel. The guests are a vivid collection of the unruly and the undone: Queenie's conniving rival; a cocaine-sniffing bisexual playboy; a washed-up boxer; a black brother act; a diva of indeterminate age and infinite life experience; the fresh-off-the-farm ingénue whose naïveté quickly evaporates; a lesbian actress and her comatose girlfriend; and the bargain basement Valentino who catches Queenie's roving eye. The jazz and gin soaked party rages to a mounting sense of threat as artifice and illusion are stripped away. When midnight debauchery leads to tragedy at dawn, the high-flying characters land with a sobering thud, reminding us that no party lasts forever. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m.
