ART & EXHIBITIONS

• Ongoing at Willard Library – the Adele & Paul Torian Native American Leaders of the Mid-19th Century exhibition. This permanent exhibit features three rare volumes of Thomas L. McKenney’s History of the Indian Tribes of North America, which was published in 1838, 1842 and 1844. The folio-sized books are in the Adult Services Department. • Continuing through December 3: Warrick County Museum, Boonville – “The Faces of Lincoln: Idealizing the Image.” Part of the Indiana Historical Society’s Indiana History Train in 2004-05, this exhibit is open Sunday the 2nd from 1 to 4 p.m. and Monday the 3rd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone 812-897-3100 for details.

•Through January 6: Evansville Museum – “Object Project.” Found in the Old Gallery of the Museum, Object Project represents two years of work by fifteen contemporary realist artists from across the US. The ground rules for the artists were simple: use five everyday common objects in either one multipanel work or in two separate paintings. Artists participating in this unique exhibit are (in alphabetical order) Steven Assael, Michael Bergt, Debra Bermingham, Deborah Deichler, Rob Evans, Scott Fraser, F. Scott Hess, Robert C. • Through January 20: Evansville Museum – “Ice Age Indiana.” A paleontologist’s or natural history buff’s dream – an exploration of the more recent Ice Age as it affected the area. Call 425-2406 for more information.

• Through February 3, 2008: Evansville Museum – “Evansville in the 1960’s. The turbulent decade as lived and breathed here in Evansville is explored through items from the era, documents, and more. Call 425-2406 for more details.

 

FAMILY

• Continuing through January 1: Garvin Park, Evansville – “Rity’s Fantasy of Lights.” This is the 14th year for the fabulously lighted drive-through display. Tickets are per vehicle are available at G.D. Ritzy’s locations and are $7 for six people or fewer, $10 for seven to fourteen people and $25 for fifteen people or more. You can get a ride through the displays in a horse-drawn carriage for $30, which also includes admission.

• Continuing through January 1: Central Park, Henderson – “Christmas in the Park.” Tree lighting is at 6 p.m. on the 30th; Christmas displays and activities for kids will be offered. Call 270-827-5467 for more information.

• December 1, 8, 9, 15 & 16: West Side Nut Club’s Acorn Plaza, Evansville – “Santa Land.” Join Santa, his elves and the Nut Clubbers from 3 to 6 p.m. each day for a free photo with the man in red. Choirs and bands from around the area will be performing each evening and the Donut Bank will offer hot chocolate and cookies. Santa Land is at the corner of 10th Avenue and West Franklin Street. • December 1 & 2: Victory Theatre – Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Peppermint Pops.” This popular Holiday concert includes Seasonal song favorites as well as guest tenor, Doug LaBrecque. Also featured in the program will be the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus, the Evansville Children’s Chorus, members of Jan’s School of Dance and jolly old St. Nick. • December 4: Victory Theatre – Jim Brickman: “Homecoming.” Homecoming is the title of Brickman’s most recent tour and album, and with his concerts he brings Richie McDonald (of Lonestar), Anne Cochran and David Klinkenberg. Brickman’s name has been synonymous with Holiday music since his hit song, “The Gift,” was released. • December 4: St. John’s East Church – Pianist Stefan Scaggiari. This internationally renowned artist has performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Kilbourn Hall Series and with numerous Orchestras, including the Evansville Philharmonic. Scaggiari has also worked on more that thirty recordings in his career as well. Included in this concert, the pianist will perform classical favorites, jazzy Christmas songs and Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” This program is free and open to the public; begins at 7 p.m. Call 473-0668 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for more information.

• December 6: Ohio Township Central Library, Newburgh – Bend in the River Brass Band Concert. The local British-style brass band will perform numerous Holiday favorites at this free concert, which begins at 7 p.m. Call 853-5758 for more information.

• December 7: Trinity Methodist Church, Evansville – Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra & the EPO Chorus present Handel’s “Messiah By Candlelight.” Open seating and general admission for this program, which begins at 8 p.m. Call the EPO at 425-5050 for more details.

 

THEATRE

• December 4: The Centre – Hairspray. From the wonderful mind of John Waters, and long-running hit on stage, comes this all-singing and dancing whoop that won nearly ten Tony awards during its run on Broadway. Can a girl with the big hair change the whole world like she dreams of? You’ll only know if you come out for this one-night-only show. Part of the Broadway at The Centre Series 2007-08.

• December 15: Victory Theatre – The Nutcracker. Two performances – at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. – will be held. Presented by the Evansville Dance Theatre (choreographed by Keith Martin) and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. Phone 425-5050 for more information.

• Through January 6: Reitz Home Museum – 28th Annual Victorian Christmas “Through The Eyes of Children.” The historic home is decked to the halls by area decorators in this festival annual tribute to Christmases past.
