What would it be like if you could go to a party, sample all the food you’d like to try from the best local restaurants, bid on fantastic items, enjoy live entertainment and help out one of the most deserving charitable organizations in that nation? It would be none other than the 10th Annual Southwest Indiana Signature Chef’s Auction to benefit the March of dimes.

The Chef’s Auction will be held on Thursday, October 23 at the Centre Exhibit Hall B in downtown Evansville. This event is one of several happenings the March of Dimes holds through the year and it is through fundraising activities like this that the organization is able to work toward its mission – to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality.

Some for the other events the March of Dimes hosts through the year will include Walk America, a fundraiser that has garnisheed over a billion dollars in it’s 34 year history and RIDE – Bikers for Babies, which lets motorcycle enthusiasts have the chance to chip in on the cause.

But the Chef’s Auction is undoubtedly the best tasting and most stylish of the March of Dimes fundraiser. “This is our most elegant event and one that is a highlight on the social calendar of the year,” says Lee Gilley. “…it is an event that is attended by corporate sponsors, and people who have purchased tables and tickets. They come to sample so of the signature dishes from some of the chefs around Evansville.

According to Gilley, those chefs represent 13 to 15 local restaurants, a number she expects to participate in this year’s Chef Auction.

The Chef’s Auction will be conducted in a way similar to nice wine tasting. Each of the restaurants will have a booth from which they will offer samplings of their signature dishes. You may go to as many as you like or simply stick with one or two. Part of the fun is that you can try just a little of something you may otherwise have to order as  full entrée form a menu – that way, you can enjoy foods you might not have considered before.

Live and silent auctions will be held as well. “The live auctions are the packages that are put together by the chefs, and that’s at their discretion, they change every year, says Gilley.

In years past a Super Bowl party that was available for bidding and was a huge hit. The Acropolis has done ‘My big Fat Greek Party,’ which was for 16 individuals who could go to the restaurant and basically just eat till they explode, she says, laughing.

Other items being auctioned off include special luncheons, dinners, getaways, retain packages, entertainment, memorabilia, and signed sports apparel.

Non-alcoholic drinks such as soft drinks and water are complimentary and there will be a cash bar as well. Everyone is welcome to this memorable event. Tickets are $50 per person. The evening begins at 5:30 and the live auction begins at 7:30. Bring a healthy appetite and enjoy the food.
