Bartending is no easy feat. Some days seem to last forever, some are so swamped you hardly know how you made it through the night and you always have to deal with people who throw popcorn and proclaim their love for anything that moves. In other words, it’s defiantly not for the faint of heart or the meek. Kim Dennison has been making sure glasses are topped off for upwards of twelve years and has always been drawn back by the second oldest profession in the world. Be sure to stop in and see Kim at Cecil’s Bar and Grill.
N4U: How long have you been bartending at Cecil’s?
Kim: Almost three
years, but I have been bartending for about twelve years now. I’m stuck!
Do you work any nights?
Nope. Been there done
that!
How did you get into bartending?
My sister, Vickie,
introduced me to it.
What is your favorite part about bartending?
The people. I have my
followers that I have had ever since I’ve been bartending. I wish this one
would get lost! Seriously, though, they’re like family and I love them. I love
Cecil’s because it’s a small neighborhood bar, where everyone knows each other.
What’s your favorite
day to work?
My birthday! That, and
Christmas Eve…people are so generous! My birthday is December 3rd,
so I’ll be expecting flowers!
What drives you nuts?
People clicking their
cans or banging their bottle on the bar. All you have to do is sit it out there
and I will see it.
Do you drink while you work?
No, I hardly drink at
all.
How do you handle a
bad situation?
I try not to anymore!
We really don’t have too many conflicts here.
What’s your favorite drink to make?
White Russian Drink?
Margarita!
What’s the best tip you’ve ever gotten?
There is no bad tip to
me.
What’s your bartending trick?
Treating people
equally and the way I want to be treated.
How do you make it
through a busy day?
I make it through by having my friends there. My good friend Lisa Murly really makes the day; she’s a clown!
If you could have a drink with anyone in the world who would it be and where?
My mom passed away so
I would I would have that drink with her anywhere in the world, just to get to
talk to her again.
What do you do when
you’re not bartending?
We play putt-putt and
go bowling. I also LOVE to get manicures and pedicures. Oh, and I’m a
cheerleader on Wednesday nights for the Slimebuckets [pool league] and their
captain Bob Warren!!
What’s your favorite food at Cecil’s?
Pizza!
I know you only work days now, but how did you juggle your family and late nights?
My kids, Stephine and
Justin, understand I had to work late so I could make us a living, cause I'm a
single parent. I can work and still be a mom and a grandma of Katelyn &
Darren!
