Westsiders,
eastsiders, northsiders, southsiders, Owensboroians, Hendersonites,
Boonvilliates, Newburghers (how about the New Harmonists? – ed) and all
the other surrounding folk conjugate at the West Side Nut Club Fall
Festival each year to get their mitts on greasy grub, ride some tummy
tickling rides, spend $100 to win a $3 teddy bear and legally throw
trash on the street. Ah, good times, good times…
Though News
4U has never sponsored a booth at the Fall Festival, we always love
writing about the talent performing and events happening. We take great
enjoyment in seeking out the most unordinary foods and letting our
readers know just how to take full advantage of their Fall Festival
experience. However, News 4U felt our readers deserved more than just a
schedule and an article. You deserve to meet us, up close and in
person. You deserve to know the motley crew that mans this magazine you
journey to Wal-Mart, Schnuck’s or even your favorite bar to find. So,
N4U decided this year was the year. We are packing up our bundles,
loading the van and heading down to Franklin Street. That’s right, this
year; we have a Fall Festival “booth.” Okay, it’s more like a table but
– we’ll be there, on the corner of 11th and Franklin! The best part is,
we aren’t just giving out our FREE News 4U’s but we will have a huge
stack of our Evansville dining guide, What’s Cookin’ on hand. This
dining guide retails for a mere $2.95, and the profits usually go
toward bringing our readers an upscale and comprehensive annual dining
guide. However, profits from the What’s Cookin’s at the Fall Festival
will go to The Evansville Dream Center.
The Dream Center,
located on West Morgan Ave., across from the Garvin Park basketball
courts, is a non-profit organization that assists at-risk youths and
their families in becoming responsible and self-sufficient members of
the community. This community-focused, Media Ministries organization
provides tutoring, meals, spiritual guidance and recreation to over 300
local children. The Dream Center also takes kids who generally wouldn’t
get to experience the thrill of fieldtrips to places like Holiday World
and Mesker Zoo, and even has a weeklong camp for the kids.
News
4U is excited to be able to aid The Dream Center in providing warm
clothes and coats for children this winter by donating the proceeds of
our What’s Cookin’ dining guides. Stop in and see us at the corner of
11th and Franklin this Fall Festival, pick up your copy of What’s
Cookin’ and help keep some really deserving and wonderful kids warm
this winter. Visit The Dream Center’s website at
www.dreamcenterevansville.org for more information on how to volunteer
and help out area youths. Oh, and if you would bring me a brain
sandwich while your there, that would be great!
