Fashion Forward: Local Fashionistas

"Evansville is so behind the times when it comes to fashion." I hear out-of-town visitors say this all the time. While Evansville may not be easily compared to Chicago or New York, there certainly isn't a shortage of fashion enthusiasts eager to put their own spin on style. Here are three Evansville natives that enjoy standing out amongst the pool of fashion followers:

angel 3.jpgThe Hair Guru: Angel Utterback, 27
Occupation:

Hairstylist at Michelle's Lincoln Avenue Salon

Favorite Places to Shop:
I love shopping at District because its right next door to the salon, so I get first pick when new shipments arrive! I also like rooting through the racks at TJ Maxx to find bargains and stock up on inexpensive accessories like scarves.

Favorite Designer:
Dolce & Gabbana. Their designs are edgy and feminine.

Least Favorite Trend:
Mullets, by far!

Favorite Season Attire:
Fall. I get excited when August comes and I get to see all the new jackets and sweaters arriving in stores.

Fashion Fix:
Online shopping. When I can't find what I want locally, I hit up the World Wide Web! I seem to find great shoe bargains this way too.

katie matt 1.jpgLeading Lady: Katie Glover, 25

Occupation:
Multi-media sales rep and spokesperson for Kenny Kent.

Describe Your Style:
Bold! I'm not afraid to be different. I also like wearing whatever is comfortable at the time.

Favorite Places to Shop:
District for out-on-the-town clothes, American Apparel for basics and loungewear, H&M for inexpensive trendy clothes, and Victoria's Secret online for work attire.

Fashion Inspiration:
I look in magazines to get ideas from what celebrities are wearing, then use my own style to get the look.  Having a designer label isn't important to me because I feel like I have my own style to inspire me.

Favorite Trend:
I live in long dresses with flip flops and sunglasses in the summer. I also love black. I'm not gothic; I just think there is something sexy about black.

Least Favorite Trend:
When girls wear running shoes with jeans it bothers me, I guess it just looks better on guys! I also don't like it when I see a group of girls and they are all wearing basically the same thing. Don't be afraid to stand out!

Favorite Article of Clothing:
I love my sunglasses and my little black shorts. Matt (below) calls them my hot shorts!

katie matt 5.jpgThe Way You Wish Your Boyfriend Would Dress: Matt Effinger, 22

Occupation:
Membership Advisor for Bob's Gym

Personal Style:
I'm sort of an urban/punk/artistic mix. I look at clothes as individual pieces of art, they don't have to match, they just need to have a captivating appearance.

Favorite Designer:
Clae for footwear and Artful Dodger for tees. Lupe Fiasco's new line, Righteous Kung Fu, has a very urban Chicago style that I like.

Favorite Trend:
I don't think of myself as a trendy guy. I wear what I want and I don't knock others for what they wear. I do like cool sneakers though, and I'm getting into high tops.

Favorite Season Attire:
Fall; I wear dark jeans, cool shoes, a t-shirt, and a light-weight jacket.
