There is more to June than Father’s Day (the 15th in case you forgot) and weddings. To start off, there are June bugs. If you venture beyond those critters on the patio door, though, you will discover a wealth of things in and around Henderson to enjoy during the month, so take a break from prime-time television reruns and enjoy the area. Here are a few suggestions to get your summer started right:

Henderson County Fair

The Henderson County Fair returns to the county fair grounds with enough agricultural goodness to make even a New Yorker nostalgic for the old family farm. A carnival, livestock auction, agricultural exhibits, beauty pageants, tractor and truck pulls, and, of course, a variety of unhealthy but delicious fair foods will be present so be sure to visit at least once between June 16 and June 21. Look the event up at www.kyfestivals.com or call 270-860-0575 for more information on this annual favorite.

Concert Series Along the Riverfront

Not to knock the Henderson Riverfront, but do you ever wish there was something to do there on Friday evenings during the summer starting June 20 and running all the way until August 1? Between, say, 7 and 10 p.m.? The Downtown Riverfront Project though this would be fun too, so they decided to host another rendition of the annual Summer Concert Series in Audubon Mill Park. As with previous years, a mix of bluegrass, rock, country, Big Band, gospel, blues, and Christian pop will be featured. Isn’t this nice of them? Call 270-827-0016 to thank them or to ask for more information.

Union County Fair

Just in case your friends from New York didn’t get their fill of the agricultural life at the Henderson County Fair, you can bring them along to the Union County Fair in nearby Sturgis between June 23 and 28. Again, carnival rides, agricultural displays, fair foods and more are promised. A number of horse shows and races are also held here throughout the month, so be sure to go to www.ucfairexpo.com if you are interested in more information.
