Evansville takes a lot of crap for being a cultural vacuum. In fact,
that has always been my main complaint about this, my humble hometown. Over the
years though, whilst I have been busy getting old and raising kids instead of
cane, things seem to have changed. At least a little. Case in point? We have TWO
different roller derby leagues. That’s an awful lot of smokin’ hot, sweaty,
tattooed ladies taking out their aggressions on each other for one city of
roughly 120,000 people! My hands down favorites are the newest bunch of bad-ass
b-yotches, the Rollergirls Of Southern Indiana, or R.O.S.I. The league is
skater-managed and operated, totally non-profit, and is comprised of some women
I would NOT want to meet in a dark alley. And some that I would. *wink* See

Among
these mavens of mayhem is a woman I have known since she was wee. So believe me
when I tell you Cindy Brooks A.K.A. Miss Embowel was born for the roller derby.
Not only does she have my favorite derby name ever, but she completely embodies
the look, energy, and gonzo spirit of the sport. The 2008 season has already begun,
and all the league’s home bouts are happening at Swonder Ice Rink. What are you
