James Otto at Woody’s

If you log on to news4uonline.com, you will find that when we attend concerts in the area, then post the review online by the next day. I had the overwhelming and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the Kenny Chesney from the front row of his last concert in Evansville. Let’s just say, I tried my hardest to touch his “little country butt.” Had it not been for Tony the bouncer solidly standing next to me, I probably could have reached it. This bigger than life entertainer was quite a bit smaller than I had imagined. I still like the butt though.

James Otto, new and upcoming country music artist, stands at a whopping 6’5 and has the build of an American Gladiator. I’ll have to settle for setting my sights on his knees! Otto’s physique is big, but his voice is even bigger. With songs like “Drink and Dial” and “Just Got Started Lovin’ You,” this classic rock infused country phenomenon has spent a lifetime honing his musical abilities.

“As long as I can possibly remember I have been obsessed with music. Listening to it on the radio, getting into my mom’s record collection – my tastes have changed, but music has been there my whole life.”

James Otto is fairly new to the scene and you may not recognize his name right off the bat, but you will certainly recognize his voice and affiliations. Recently, Otto became a member of the MuzikMafia, an informal collection of American country music artists, founded in October of 2001 in Nashville, Tennessee, by Big Kenny and John Rich (Big & Rich), along with Jon Nicholson and Cory Gierman. And, if you are an Atlanta Braves fan you may have noticed a new theme song for the team entitled, “The Braves Play Here.” The voice behind the new theme song written by Greg Barnhill and Randy Wachtler is none other than James Otto. Finally, "Just Got Started Lovin' You" reached Number One on the Hot Country Songs Charts in May of 2008, becoming the highest-charting single of his career.

Get your John Deere boots (see Shopping Guide – page 16) ready because James Otto is coming to Woody’s on August 3rd to perform live in Evansville for one night only with special guests Jason Clutter and the Broken Arrow Band and Red Eye Max. Tickets are $18 in advance and $21 at the door.  Doors open at 7 p.m.

I can’t say that I’ll ever feel the same about Otto as I feel for my Kenny, but maybe without Tony the bouncer, I can “get a better look” at his hiney in person for a more educated decision.
