15 MINUTES OF FAME: HE'S A MAGIC MAN, MAMA: MATT GRISHAM
Matt Grisham has been
performing his special brand of magic for 14 years now. Here’s the kicker –
he’s only 20. This award-winning magician and full-time USI student can’t even
legally enter a bar, but can produce coins, crayons and cards from all orifices
– of your face. Take a look as Matt dishes on the tricks and secrets of the
trade…

N4U: First up, how
did you get into this shifty profession?
MG: When I was six, a magician performed at my birthday
party and I received a magic kit. I was hooked. I started with birthday
parties, moved on to restaurant magic and now I do business parties, benefits
and school shows. I recently starting building tricks to sell and I purchased a
75 lb. cotton candy machine and moon bounce. I’m the b-day party hookup.
Do you use fire?
Some; now that I’m old enough to play with it…
What’s your favorite
trick to carry out?
The straight jacket. Two people strap me into a straight
jacket…
Go on.
Then I have a two-minute time limit to get out of the
jacket. Houdini could do it in two mins. I can do it in less than two.
Are you under water
or hanging upside down?
No, my girlfriend won’t let me… I have been practicing this
trick for about five years and only performed it for the pat two. Oh, I chop
off people’s limbs too. Mainly hands and fingers.
Does the mafia
contact you regularly to do “jobs?”
[No comment.]
Do you use animals?
No, they are too messy and hard to take care of. Just
balloon animals. I am also a clown and a balloon sculptor.
Balloon sculpture?
The Michelangelo of ballooning, huh? Tell me about being a clown. Did you go to
clown college?
No, just USI. Freckles (my girlfriend) and myself [Hoppie]
are professional clowns. We do juggling, comedy, balloon sculpting – the works. We even wear the noses and the shoes.

What is the grand
finale to your show?
I make it snow…indoors…in the summer…
