SkiDay Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Hot bods, beer and boats! Hosted by Miss A.J. Alexander, SkiDay XXX will be the biggest party SkiDay has seen yet. An Evansville tradition, boaters from all over the tri-state area commune together, spending a relaxing day of music, contests and giveaways.

            Held at Sigeco Beach this year, this ultimate party has been dubbed by Sunny O’Beach (the guy who started this whole thing 30 years ago), “SkiDay is Spring Break and Mardi Gras in a blender!” It will be nonstop action all day and you won’t want to miss the infamous “King of the Beach Competition” and the “World Famous SkiDay Bikini Contest.” Also performing is Suzuki 4 Eva and The Suzuki Twins, Heather and Hannah. This parodying group puts a countrified twist on… well, whatever it is they are talking about.

                SkiDay began 30 years ago as a water ski promotion for a local sporting goods retailer who is now out of business. The first year, a small watercraft floated along the Ohio and passed out sodas to the fifteen boats in attendance and entered boaters in a drawing to win a Slalom Water Ski.

                You won’t want to miss SkiDay’s 30th Anniversary, but the sticky part is, you have to have a boat, have a friend with a boat or stowaway on a boat, because the only way to get to Sigeco Beach is by…water. You have a little more than a week to track down and make friends with that guy you met this summer at a party who mentioned his “pleasure craft,” because SkiDay is on August 10th, so get on it!  Sponsored by Bud Light, Big Daddy’s Boathouse, Show Me’s and other Evansville businesses, you won’t want to miss this iconic Evansville tradition.

What is SkiDay? Simply put, SkiDay on the Ohio is a big boating party.

Ahead of its time, SkiDay paved the way as a template for many of the large boating events that are now commonplace on rivers and lakes throughout the country. And now, 30 years later, this boating “mega party” has evolved into one of the largest river beach events in the United States.

In addition to the music and on-air personalities from the best two radio stations in the world, SkiDay boasts two wildly popular events that are iconic to the thousands of SkiDay attendees; "The King of the Beach Competition" and of course, "The World Famous SkiDay Bikini Contest".

But, and make no mistake about it…although SkiDay on the Ohio is presented as a day of music, contests and prize giveaways, the actual "event" is you, the boaters of the Tri-State, getting together for one day to celebrate your favorite pastime. Now the "must go" event on the Tri-State boating social calendar, SkiDay is considered by area boaters as "our day to party"!
