An Intoxicating Evening

Hide all known members of A.A. and grab a mug or glass because SWIRCA is hosting the 6th annual Southern Indiana Brewery, Winery, and Spirits Festival. Do not be deceived, you will not find any type of supernatural beings at this festival. What you will find is a friendly mix of fun loving people who take their alcohol very seriously. When it comes to Rieslings, Ales, Bourbons, and everything in between, these men and women have a wealth of knowledge by perfecting their craft (no pun intended) that will blow your mind faster than you can say “firewater.” In attending this event, cleanse your pallet and expect to take part in something new and original. The Southern Indiana Brewery, Winery, and Spirits Festival is unique to its breed. The festival is the first of its kind to offer samples of five different types of alcohol; you can even get in touch with your “Mexican cousin” and sample margaritas.

Here’s the breakdown folks, if your taste buds are a little on the classical side and you would make a hobby of “grape watching” if it existed, there are 109 wines from award winning wineries for you to indulge in.  If you consider yourself leaning more towards the barley and hops persuasion, do not fret brothers and sisters-in-brew, there are seventy original microbrews and 23 different craft-brewed beers to choose from, representing eight of the fifty great states not including our own. For all you masochists out there, those who prefer to drink something with more of a kick, samples of whiskey and bourbon (Kentucky or Tennessee whiskey) will be available.

In addition to the kaleidoscope of alcoholic beverages, the festival will offer the entertainment of a top 40’s band called Better Than Nothin’. They say that music is more enjoyable when you have consumed a healthy amount of alcohol. For those who know the feeling, that statement is self evident, so how can you go wrong with such an event? The festival is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. on Saturday August 16th. Also, what is a good festival if food is absent? Do not worry about that aspect because there will be strange and extraordinary culinary selections available to make sure your appetite as well as your thirst are appeased.

The event will be located on 16 W. Virginia Street in Evansville and tickets are priced $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and $20 for a group of fifteen or more. The tickets are available by calling 800-253-2188 or 812-464-7800, or you can obtain tickets at all branches of Old National Bank, Schnuck’s (all locations), Turoni’s (both locations), and the Chamber of Commerce. Please take full advantage of the selections and enjoy the experience. When the kegs and barrels are empty and the table across from you has eight people seated at it when you only remember four, taxis will be provided courtesy of Woods and Woods to make sure you reach your destination safely.
